Top 5 Best PlayStation 5 Exclusives

The PlayStation 5 has undeniably reshaped the gaming landscape since its launch, heralding a new era of immersive gaming experiences with its cutting-edge hardware such as the revolutionary Dualsense controller with its haptic feedback, it’s crazy fast proprietary SSD, and a list of exclusive titles that have both critics and gamers singing praises. As Sony recently remarked, the PS5 is entering “the latter stage of its life cycle,” a statement that brings attention to the maturity of the console and its ecosystem, suggesting that now is the right moment to reflect on the gems that define this generation.

This list of the top 5 best PlayStation 5 exclusive games celebrates those titles that have not only defined the console’s identity but have also pushed the boundaries of storytelling, gameplay, and graphical fidelity. Ultimately if you are thinking of obtaining a PS5 it would be for these titles, no PS4 cross-gen titles on this list (sorry Aloy and Kratos). Whether you’re revisiting favorites or looking for your next gaming obsession, these games exemplify the best of what the PS5 has to offer.

5.Astro’s Playroom

Astro’s Playroom is a wholesome time.

This one might be considered a throw away game simply because it is included with the PS5 itself, but don’t let that fool you. Astro’s Playroom is the perfect benchmark game to showcase what the haptics on the Dualsense controller can really do to your friends. It’s a short and sweet game that can be completed in a single sitting and feels fantastic to play. Not only that but the game is absolutely charming as it pays homage to so many classic PlayStation games (1st party and 3rd Party) with a few references, nods, and sight gags that seem quite fitting as you collect various historical PlayStation collectables.

4.Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy XVI has no shortage of beautiful scenes.

I can’t speak for everyone else, but FF XVI was the reason I bought a PS5. I’m a massive Final Fantasy fan (which is why I did a three part piece about the series) and that debut trailer for the game immediately sold me on it. The game is downright gorgeous, the gameplay is frantic and action-based, and the story is of the same caliber as “Game Of Thrones pre-season 8” good! If you haven’t tried it yet I recommend downloading the demo to see if it is your kind of game. The sheer scale of the game in its speed, particle effects, lighting/shadows, and collisions are a testament to the power of the PS5’s hardware.

3.Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Rift Apart has amazing fur-rendering capabilities…that’s a term, right?

When the first gameplay of Rift Apart was shown it was quite clear why the game wasn’t on last-gen hardware. It was the unbelievable speed of the custom SSD. The tech demo was able to render different worlds rapidly as Ratchet was grinding on a rail and jumping through portals that would make the PS4 chug and drop to 15 frames-per-second at its best. If anyone was dubious about the PS5’s hardware, those concerns were laid to rest when we saw how quickly it could render so many environments at breakneck speed! Aside from being a great entry in the loving-running Ratchet and Clank series, the game was a tech demo marvel!

2. Returnal

If you can handle the brutal progression and lack of saving, Returnal is a great experience!

Returnal is one of the most culturally important exclusives on the PS5. The game wasn’t a system seller and is pretty forgotten by most mainstream gamers now, but it was one of the earliest first-party games on the system that wasn’t part of an established IP. It wasn’t held up by an enduring legacy like Final Fantasy, Ratchet, or Spider-Man. It had to stand on its own two legs and merit alone, and it mostly did. The third-person shooter rogue-like from Playstation studio Housemarque is a challenging game.  But its unique setting of a planet stuck in a time loop and the unraveling of the mind of our 40-something-year old protagonist Selene Vassos left an impression in our brains. And that makes it worthy for inclusion here.

1. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

The Symbiote powers feel so good to use in the game thanks to the advanced haptic feedback of the Dualsense controller.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 solidifies its position as a top PS5 exclusive through its impressive combination of engaging dual narratives, improved gameplay mechanics, and groundbreaking graphics. Players are treated to a dynamic open-world New York City, rendered in stunning detail, showcasing the PS5’s powerful hardware capabilities. The gameplay introduces innovative web-slinging mechanics and combat improvements, offering a fluid, exhilarating way to navigate the city and engage with enemies.

The haptic feedback you feel when landing punches and kicks feels so good and the crazy-fast SSD speed when fast traveling is something I haven’t really seen before. These elements, combined with a well-crafted story that respects and expands upon the source material, make Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 a standout title and a must-have for any PS5 owner.

Closing Thoughts

As game development cycles take longer and longer to complete, the reality is that there might not be many more banger PS5 exclusives on the horizon. That said these are some of the finest games on the system. We didn’t even inlcude honorary mentions like Bluepoint’s Demons Souls remake, or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but had the list been longer they would have surely been included.
