Halloween’s Top 5 Spooky Pokemon of 2023!

Halloween is just around the corner, folks! That means it’s time to get spooky! And, what better way than to talk about the spookiest Pokemon Game Freak has ever created! Join us at Geek News Now as we discuss the top 5 scariest, creepiest, and down right weirdest Pokemon residing within the Pokemon world!

Halloween Favorite; Mimikyu!

Let’s start the list off with the most festive and spooky Disguise Pokemon, Mimikyu! Sure, it may look like Pikachu, but be careful. If anyone attempts to peek at what lies beneath this ghoulish Pokemon’s disguise, you’ll be so petrified you might die! Rumor has it a lone hiker once saw Mimikyu without its disguise on, and became so horrified by its true form, he died from sheer fright!

To make matters even more terrifying here’s Meowth from Team Rocket experiencing Mimikyu without its disguise! Of course by anime logic, Meowth does survive, but it’s still petrifying to know whart Mimikyu truly looks like underneath that cloak!

However, this little guy actually just wants to be loved like any other Pokemon. This explains why Mimikyu disguised itself as Pikachu. Although, if I were a Mimikyu, I’d have a blast Trick-or-Treating on Halloween night.

Greavard, The Life Sucker!

Hailing from the Paldea Region in our next entry is none other than the Ghost Dog Pokemon, Greavard. This seemingly adorable pooch is actually quite dangerous if you have it stick around you for too long. Despite its rather playful and loyal nature, people that played with Greavard experienced severe levels of fatigue. This is because in order for Greavard to maintain its energy, it unknowingly absorbs the life force of those nearby. This is similar to the Candle Pokemon Litwick, but at least it won’t guide you to the spirit realm.

Galarian Slowking, A Poison Witch?!

Next on our Halloween listing of spooky Pokemon is none other than Galarian Slowking. Unlike Johtonian Slowking, Galarian Slowking isn’t what he seems! When Galarian Slowpoke was wearing a Kings Rock, the sheer shock of Shellder biting its head caused it to inherit a Poison typing. In addition, the Shellder gained complete control of Slowking.

What makes this Pokemon scarier is that not only does its Signature Move Eerie Spell make it sound ominous, but it is also able to produce potions using a combination of processed food items and toxins from its body. I don’t know about you, but if i ever saw Galarian Slowking chanting spells whilst making eye contact, i’d be heading the other way.

Gourgeist, The Halloween Killer!

What better way to celebrate Halloween than with pumpkins! Small pumpkins, large pumpkins, sentient killer pumpkins! Indeed, the Pumpkin Pokemon Gourgeist comes in a variety of sizes. In fact, obtaining one will make it feel so overjoyed, it would wrap its slim arms around your neck and sing happy tunes whilst you struggle to breath!

If you do manage to escape this, don’t worry. Just hearing this Pokemon’s eerie lullaby is enough to curse you. What’s more, small and large Gourgeist desquise themselves as humans in order to lure people out. Anyone foolish enough to fall for this, or answer their door when it comes a-knockin’, will be whisked away to the afterlife.

They also make great nightlights, too.

Soul Snatching Shedinja!

Our last entry for this listing is the Shed Pokemon, Shedinja. Though it may not look like much….. that’s it. It’s literally nothing but a hollowed shell of a Nincada. However, it somehow gained sentience and can appear in your party if you have an available slot.

While it may seem harmless at first glance given it never moves, just try to avoid staring into its back. A single glance into its hole is said to suck the spirit out of anyone who tries to peer inside. How this is done, even bug enthusiasts have a hard time understanding. If you do have a Shedinja in your party, don’t worry about taking care of it, as it doesn’t even need to breath. Great for battles, terrible for sleepovers!

Honorable Mentions:

Lampent Awaits You:

Posing as a simple lantern outside Hospitals, Lampent awaits a persons passing before taking their soul away to fuel the flame within. ‘Soul Eating Demons’ is a description one Harley S. gave it on the RWBY Republic Facebook page. Honestly, if I were lying in a hospital bed, i’d be spooked by a sentient lamp watching me from a window.

To Drifloon, You’re As Light As A Feather:

The small, yet suspicious Balloon Pokemon Drifloon is well known throughout the Sinnoh Region as the ‘Child Snatcher’. Stories tell of children often encountering a Drifloon, soon disappearing afterward. One Victor H. from RWBY Republic said that ‘Drifloon only kidnapped kids’. Whether this is true or not still remains to be seen, but this doesn’t mean it’s any less scary.

Happy Halloween!
