New 3D South Park Game

After a year of waiting comes an all new South Park game for next gen consoles from publisher THQ Nordic. This new addition to the franchise comes an update in graphics.

South Park: Snow Day

Announced at THQ Nordic’s annual digital showcase in 2022, South Park Snow Day looks to take a turn from previous projects. For starters instead of the next game being in 2D like South Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole it’ll now step in to the 3D world. As stated in the trailer it’ll also become a multiple co-op game.

The game will focus on Kyle, Cartman, Stan, Kenny, and the rest of the gang as they celebrate their day off from school due to a snow day. While not much is known about the game beyond what was shown in the trailer. It looks as if the game will be fantasy-based as shown seeing Cartman in his Grand Wizard King costume from South Park: Stick of Truth. Another thing to bring up was what Cartman said at the end of the trailer calling out to the new kid from previous games.

Thoughts

This might be a double-edged sword situation as seen prior with many other games that have made the jump from 2-D to 3-D. With those games some have survived the three-dimensional jump, while others like Bubsy 3D and MegaMan X7 receive terrible reviews and almost destroyed the franchise.

However, this wouldn’t be the first time South Park decided to dive into the 3-D world. In 2004, Buzz Monkey decided to make an GTA or Simpsons hit-and-run, inspired clone. However, the project didn’t have Matt & Trey’s involvement along with a few other problems that led to the cancellation of the game.

Since the announcement of the project there has been mixed reviews from fans. On X and YouTube some fans shared their dislike for the updated graphics. While others shared their excitement for the installment.

Developers

Alongside THQ Nordic who is known for games like Biomutant and Remnant 2.  South Park: Snow Day will be developed by Question. A small Indie team known for previous games like The Magic Circle, an unfinished fantasy game and The Blackout Club, a first person co-op horror game.

This will be the most recent game made after the 2017 South Park: The Fractured But Whole created by Ubisoft. South Park: Snow Day will be available on PS5, Xbox series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2024.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming game? Do you think THQ Nordic are the best developers to have on a project like this? Let us know in the comments below. Also be sure to check out GNN. As always stay geeky!
