Which Dave Filoni Creation Should Appear In “Ahsoka”?

When recently asked which Dave Filoni creation fans I wanted to see make an appearance in Ahsoka (2023), I had six characters of his tenure come to mind. These characters all stand out as very good, if not *great*, and for many reasons which this piece explores. But I decided to post a poll in The GNN Greats — a Geek News Now Facebook group — so the question could be, as we like to aim for, “fueled by the fans”!

The poll, posted on August 11th, 2023 (called eight days later), showed surprisingly little love for a couple of Filoni creations and an obviously great amount for others. Take a look at my list of six Filoni characters below with their poll results accompanied by the reasons why they could’ve been great additions to Ahsoka!

(1.) Grogu (3%)

Okay, *technically* a creation of Jon Favreau; that said, Grogu came about because of collaboration between Favreau and Dave Filoni who executive produced Favreau’s hit series The Mandalorian (2019-present). This lil’ green bunch of cuteness is a former Padawan of the Prequel Era Jedi Order who survived Order 66 and won his way into many Star Wars fans hearts.

If Grogu, guardian Din Djarin, and Ahsoka herself can make extended cameos in The Book of Boba Fett (2021), I see no reason why Grogu (at least) can’t cameo in Ahsoka!

(2.) Captain Rex (23%)

The good captain, one of many clones who fought in the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War, was truly a stand-out and honorable individual. Rex had opinions, often speaking up to authorities above himself if he felt something mattered. When Order 66 came, he unfortunately succumbed to his inhibitor chip (one of many installed in his clone brethren) but was ultimately freed of it by Ahsoka Tano.

He went on to join the crew of the Ghost and aid the start of the Rebellion. Imagine seeing Rex and Ahsoka team up for old time’s sake against new threat: Grand Admiral Thrawn!

(3.) Cad Bane (12%)

I know, I know… “But he’s DEAD!” Hey, if (for example) being sliced in half or stabbed in the mid-section isn’t enough to kill other Star Wars characters (except Qui-Gon Jinn for some reason), who’s to say there *isn’t* a way to bring back the notorious Dave Filoni era bounty hunter! Looking like something out of a classic Spaghetti Western, Cad Bane was a force to be reckoned with; a seriously bad dude who was as lethal as he was cunning. Known for being quite adept at fighting Jedi and holding his own, it might be dynamite to see Bane and Ahsoka clash.

(4.) Bo-Katan Kryze (14%)

Bo-Katan might be a stretch given her new role amongst her people of late! Picture credit to polygon.com

Bo-Katan may be rather busy leading the Mandalorian people nowadays, but maybe her path will cross with that of Ahsoka *and* Ahsoka’s new trainee; one Sabine Wren with whom Bo-Katan has a rough history. The Darksaber, symbol of whom has the right to rule the Mandalorian people, is now destroyed; the question remains: should Bo-Katan be the Mand’alor or should it be Sabine?

(5.) Chopper (3%)

Granted we saw Chopper in the trailers, but one still wonders if the plucky astromech droid from Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Rebels (2014-2018) will have a big role to play in Ahsoka. He kept the Rebel transport — the Ghost — ship-shape and with all the sass of a certain other astromech droid; perhaps more so!

We know Hera Syndulla will play a part in Ahsoka and it’s said that Chopper stayed by her side for many years, so I see no reason why he wouldn’t make an appearance at least; an extended cameo at most!

(6.) Hondo Ohnaka (45%)

That pirate among pirates himself! Picture credit to dorksideoftheforce.com

That blasted pirate scoundrel came out ahead in the poll! Not surprising considering he’s pretty popular among Star Wars fans. After all: “So many stories; so many of them true…” This fellow aided (sorta?) the good guys during the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War, and the First Order-Resistance War. Formerly a slave who had a rotten upbringing, Hondo would one day fashion himself into a pirate king; a privateer “businessman”, he might say; operating outside an “unjust system”.

He had style, and he was nobody’s fool. It’s fair to say that this sneaky Weequay had more to him than meets the eye as he would initially act out of self interest but ultimately do what needed to be done to help others, especially if it was profitable. It might be cool to see this Dave Filoni era pirate meet up with Ahsoka once again.

A Few Final Words

Fans at The GNN Greats shared their opinions on who among Dave Filoni’s creations they wanted most to see and why, and it was about like this:

“Hondo with the Falcon.” said John Rozmiarek. “It’s a Galaxy Edge thing.”

“I wanna see a live action Hondo so BAD!!!” said Debi Barton.

“I mean who doesn’t want to see more of Katie Sackhoff?” said Kat Holler.

Ahsoka comes to Disney+ soon; will you be there to see it? Picture credit to wikiofnerds.com

Let’s be honest, this Ahsoka series may be it’s own thing in many respects; it will likely, however, be quite the reunion for characters featured in Dave Filoni’s creative tenure within the world of Star Wars… Especially Star Wars Rebels. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing; it might bring some closure to certain stories like whatever became of Ezra Bridger. But seeing any of these Dave Filoni creations make cameo appearances or prolonged ones in Ahsoka would be pretty cool. Check out Ahsoka on its August 22nd, 2023 release on Disney+!
