Genshin Impact will finally reach their 4.0 milestone and the community is very excited!
Travelers will finally be able to explore the much-anticipated country of Fontaine and face down against the Hydro Archon, Focalors. On August 4th, Hoyoverse CEO Dawei hosted the Genshin Impact 4.0 Special Program, and discussed what players can expect in the upcoming version. With much to cover, let’s see what the Genshin Impact 4.0 update will have in store for us!
Welcome to Fontaine; You’re Under Arrest!

Our journey through Teyvat takes us to the Hydro continent of Fontaine. Here, the Traveler will encounter Lyney and Lynette who are put on trial after questioning the judicial court system. After accidentally getting involved in a magic show gone awry, the Traveler must now do everything within their power to avoid judgement, and seek answers regarding Focalors.
But, with the Hydro Archon, supreme court, and an army of Mekaguards against them, how will our hero get out of this bind? Also, what business does the Fatui Harbinger Childe have at Fontaine? All will be answered when the next chapter As Light Rain Falls Without Reason launches August 16th!
Under The Sea, Exploration Is Free!

Now, let’s talk gameplay! During our journey through Teyvat, travelers have experienced the pain of the dreaded Stamina Bar. Running, Gliding, and even Swimming consumes the ever-limited meter, forcing players to either consume food, or just wait out the recovery process. However, with the new 4.0 update, Hoyoverse has generously removed this feature in Fontaine to make way for the Aquatic Stamina bar.
During your time in Fontaine, you’ll no longer find yourself growing tired while swimming. Instead, you’re allowed ease-of-access underwater travel. Any character is capable of underwater exploration, and there are even recovery points to aid you in your journey. Evetnually though, you’ll have to go back up for some freash air, but this is a vast improvement since the launch of the game.
Genshin Impact; Magic Is In The Air!

(L-R) Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. New playable characters. Image from sg.news.yahoo.com
Following the 4.0 update, three new characters will be released. The first character will be the 5-Star Pyro Archer Lyney, a Fontanian magician with a crafty way of words. His skill allows him to summon a Grim-Malkin Cat to distract nearby opponents. Upon being destroyed, it will strike its nearest target and afflict Pyro damage. Sort of like Amber’s Baron Bunny, but with a bit more accuracy.
The second character is 4-Star Anemo Swordswoman Lynette, Lyney’s twin sister. Similar to Lyney, Lynette can summon a Bogglecat Box that distracts nearby opponents. However, it can also absorb a nearby element and deal the corresponding elemental damage at intervals.
Finally, the third character to be introduced is 4-Star Cryo Claymore wielder, Freminet. A sibling to the twins, Freminet prefers to not put himself in the center of attention. He owns a clockwork penguin named Pers, that can help deal Cryo AOE damge to nearby opponents, with the addition of Shattering Pressure. However, this all depends on Pers Clockwork Timer.
With all three siblings available after the 4.0 update, i’m looking forward to exploring Fontaine with them!
We Meet Again, Comrade!

4.0 Banner (re)runs. Image from beebom.com
Of course, we can’t discuss the Genshin Impact 4.0 update without discussing the upcoming banner (re)runs. In the first half of the update, Lyney and Yelan will be available for wishing, with the inclusion of Lynette as the 4-Star runner. However, if you’ve already reached Adventure Rank 25 and above (not surprised if most players have by now), you’ll be able to invite Lynette for free. Talk about saving some Primogems!
During the second half of 4.0, the Geo Archon Zhongli and Fatui Harbinger Childe will be available during their banner reruns, alongside Freminet as the 4-Star runner. With new characters and exciting reruns, i’m looking forward to seeing who i’ll be able to pull for. As long as I don’t go for broke.
Dancing With Danger!

With the introduction to a new continent to explore, travelers will also be introduced to brand new world bosses to face off against. The first boss will be known as Icewind Suite. The performing duo of Dirge of Coppelia and Nemesis of Coppelius hail from the Fontaine Research Institute. Combining the power of Anemo and Cryo, the dancing duo unite their powers to create a fierce, yet elegant battlefield.

As you continue to make your way through Fontaine’s underwater pathways, you may also stumble across a fierce opponent. Dwelling deep within the underwater caverns, the ancient ruler of the Fontemer Aberrants known as The Emperor of Fire and Iron awaits your arrival. The Emperor can possess the power of Pyro and erupts large fireballs from his backside, dealing Pyro AOE damage. In addition, it will catch one of these fireballs and slam it into the ground, creating a trail of flames you must avoid.
With a compelling storyline, new characters and new bosses arriving to Genshin Impact 4.0, I’m very excited to begin exploring Fontaine soon.
Genshin Impact’s Honkai Update!

Official 4.0 Party Setup update. Image from news.qoo-app.com
Finally, let’s talk about Hoyoverse’s newest features that’ll help improve gameplay ten-fold. To start things off, travelers will be getting a much needed change to their party setups. No longer will we have characters simply standing around, waiting to be selected on a blank canvas. Instead, each character will have a unique idle animation while on the Party Setup Screen as shown here. They even come with their own singular animation when cycling through which characters to add to your team!
And lastly, the Overworld Map will also receive an update. Layers will be added, allowing players to properly navigate their way through caves, chasms, and tunnels. Now i won’t get lost or turned around whilst traveling underground! This is all very well received by players, and now Genshin will no longer feel so generic when playing through.
Ready Or Not…… You’re Good!

The Genshin Impact 4.0 Update will launch on August 16th. Players who have completed everything up to the latest quest in Sumeru will be allowed instant access to Fontaine via Aquabus! However, if you haven’t reached that far, especially if you’re new to Genshin, no worries! If you manage to complete the beginning Archon Quest Song of Dragon and Freedom, you’ll be allowed to instantly travel to a Teleport Waypoint located on the outskirts of Fontaine.
