Ahoy geeks, Jimmie here! My family and I went down to the local movie house this afternoon to check out the new Super Mario Bros. flick. I do have to say, despite all the turds masquerading as movie reviewers, this movie is extremely well done. This is great news for video game fans like myself, but it got me start to wondering, “What Nintendo games deserve a movie to the big screen?”. There are so many classic titles Nintendo has developed over the years that it was tough to pick one in particular, so I picked five instead.
And on that note, LET’S A GO! Here are my top picks for Nintendo games that we need to see be made into movies!
5. Metroid

This game would make a killer sci-fi movie!
My number 5 pick for Nintendo games being brought to the big screen is Metroid. It has the makings of a fun sci-fi movie: spaceships, weird alien critters and a heroine in a cool suit! The challenge here would be to whittle down all the levels into an easily digestible film that does not appear to be an Alien clone. If they can pull off a Super Mario movie them I am confident a studio could easily do justice to this game.
4. Kid Icarus

This little cherub would make a fun animated movie.
This classic is my number 4 pick for a fun videogame to film port. Kid Icarus did have an animated appearance in the old Captain N the GameMaster show, but the writing (not to mention the voice acting) was…lacking. Sure, it was good for the time, however, we have the tech now to make something really visually appealing. How cool would it be to see this winged champion take on Medusa, and the Eggplant Wizard in an Imax format!

3.Excitebike

Hitting the track on the big screen would be awesome!
Number 3 on my list is Excitebike! This one would have to be live action seeing that animated dirt bike racing would be a bit on the meh side. I know some of you are thinking “Why?”, but hear me out. It could be like the Fast and the Furious series meets “Rad”, but without the 80s. People love race scenes from Alita: Battle Angel all the way back to The Love Bug. Developing this movie would bring a serious element of fun.
2.Donkey Kong Country

Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong looking to star in their own movie.
After seeing the Super Mario Bros. movie, this one has to be a given. Seth Rogen pulled off voicing everyone’s favorite gaming gorilla (hard to believe, I know.), It would make sense that Hollywood would build on the momentum of the romp through the Mushroom Kingdom and let the Kong nation have their turn.
1. The Legend of Zelda

I would love to see this made into a movie in my lifetime!
At the top spot for Nintendo games adapted to the big screen should come as no surprise. The Legend of Zelda is one of the longest running action-adventure RPG’s on the Nintendo family of consoles, and I would give my body weight in rupee’s to see this made into a movie. There are so many stories to tell that it would be easy for a filmmaker to find something fun to bring to the to the audiences. My pick would be Ocarina of Time, but really any of them (with the exception of that CD-i abomination) would make for a fun movie! Would it be best suited for live action, or would it be best if they followed Super Mario Bros. and make it an animated spectacle!?
And there we have it! My top 5 list of Nintendo games needing a movie treatment. What would you add to the list? Let us know in the comments or over on our Facebook page!
