After rumours and leaks swirled since January last year, Netflix have finally announced a Scott Pilgrim anime is in production. On top of this the director of the 2010 film, Edgar Wright, shared a trailer confirming that the “whole cast” will be reprising their roles.
The trailer confirms the return of lead actors Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead reprising their roles along with many others. Chris Evans who is reprising his role as Lucas Lee only had one word in response to the announcement.

Other cast members confirmed to be returning are several of the evil exes Scott Pilgrim faces. Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves and Mae Whitman as Roxie Richter. In the thirteen years since the film came out this cast has spread into every bit of pop culture. The tweets surrounding the announcement, and the responses to it, feel like a reunion.
Who’s behind the scenes on the Scott Pilgrim anime?
Wright will also be returning as an executive producer with the author and artist of the original Scott Pilgrim comic Bryan Lee O’Malley. O’Malley is also the show runner alongside TV writer BenDavid Grabinski. O’Malley also confirmed on his twitter that Anamanaguchi will be providing music for the anime. Fans will know them as the band who composed the soundtrack for the Scott Pilgrim Vs The World video game.
The animation studio in charge is Science Saru, best known for Devilman: Crybaby and the ‘T0-B1’ and ‘Akakiri’ shorts for Star Wars:Visions. Directing will be a long time company director Abel Góngora. No official art has been revealed, however with O’Malley producing the anime may look similar to the original books.

The dynamic style of the original comic
Scott Pilgrim still has a strong and dedicated fan base who soak up new stuff. Two years ago we received a fresh re-release of the game, the books are staples of comic stores. The film, despite not blowing up the box office, has endured as a major cult hit. The fanbase are loud and rally around every project that is hinted at happening, including the leak from a year ago. With this anime Netflix could be creating the perfect storm of what fans want. The cast and crew is back along with fan favourite music. No one has officially animated Scott Pilgrim before like this either, strange for such an action heavy story. There’s no word on when it’s coming out but Wright claims it’s “Imminent”, fans eagerly await their first proper look.
