Hoyoverse terminated Elliot Gindi (Tighnari) following severe misconduct allegations. While a great number of people removed Gindi from their followings on Twitter, his fellow Hoyoverse EN actors, such as Zach Aguilar (Aether) and Christie Cate (Qiqi), distanced themselves, altogether. Furthermore, they expressed their disappointment toward Gindi, and sympathized with those he victimized.
Keep in mind this article will be discussing topics involving explicit behaviour unbecoming of any such person. If you are uncomfortable with such topics, feel free to view our safer content here.
How Gindi Got Exposed:
For starters, the situation occured February 8th, when his Discord/Twitch moderator @FretCore addressed the situation on their Twitter. @FretCore received numerous Discord DM’s regarding the voice actor, and his rather unsettling behaviour toward minors on Discord. The messages included allegations of grooming, enticing, and explicit photographs.
Secondly, Elliot Gindi made a tweet regarding the allegations, and an apology to those he victimized. However, his apology felt weak, as he also went on the defense to deny other allegations. He also blacked out his Twitter page following this incident, stating he will log off and seek therapy.
Lastly, Christie Cate went on to state that Kotaku, a website affiliate to Hoyoverse, contacted the latter company in regards to the recent events. As a result, one of Hoyoverse’s company representatives responded, expressing major sympathy for those effected by Gindi’s actions. They state they are curently working as hard as they can in order to come to a solution. While this could mean that Tighnari will be getting a new voice actor, Genshin fans stand divided over one minor thing.
Seperating Elliot Gindi From Tighnari:
It doesn’t come as a surprise that a majority of people became divided between sympathizing with victims and the character of Tighnari. On one side of the conversation, everyone had shown sympathy to those effected by Elliot’s actions. On the other, Genshin players have expressed concern over how those who play as Tighnari will never see the character in the same light again.
As a result, those sympathizing with victims turned on players, pointing out that Tighnari is simply a fictional character. A prime example would be YouTuber Tectone, who expressed on his channel not only the news regarding Elliot, but also pointing out the rather awkward behaviour from players. Some even leaving comments in videos, almost as if they were addressing Tighnari as a real person.
Either way, at the end of the day, Tighnari is simply a character. At least, that’s how I see it. Finally, according to the official Genshin Impact Twitter, as of one hour prior to this article’s posting, Elliot Gindi will no longer voice Tighnari in any upcoming voice lines.
