You’re a would-be “superhero” in physical training, you need the right tunes to get the energy flowing and the drive strong! Taken from various places in the geeky/nerdy realm, these are the top five tunes you need to hear while you work out for your superhero badge of honor!
Artist: Niall Stenson (based on original score by Ron Wasserman)
Go, go, you Power Ranger! This tune — a fan cover of the theme song to Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers (1993-1996) — is electric, rockin’, and morphinomenal! With each stroke of the electric guitar laying out the rock, let it flow through you and boost you into superpowered mode as you lift; or ride a stationary bike.
I’ve heard the original version; it’s awesome. I’ve heard other fan covers of it; they’re mostly good. But this version performed by guitarist Niall Stenson is the best; albeit too short and needs the full extended theme.
Artist: Basil Poledouris
Consider: you are the steel being forged in the fires of your own power. Every step, every lift, every *thing* you do in physical training is another drop of the hammer at the anvil solving your own “riddle of steel”… And this tune from Conan the Barbarian (1982) is a perfect one to listen to while you do so.
Specifically the version from the Intrada records album which has late actor Mako delivering the opening narration. Somehow it has the power to make one feel strong. The whole tune has that ability!
Artist: Brad Fiedel
It has to be this track from “The Definite Edition” album of The Terminator (1984); where you can hear what sounds much like metal pounded into at a forge. This may seem a very Conan thing, but considering this movie also dealt with something made of steel — wow, we’re really hitting a recurring theme of “steel” here — it gives me a similar feeling to “Prologue/Anvil of Crom”.
It’s tough, and suggests keeping on like the powerful machine you are! Listen and you will feel like an unstoppable engine!
Artist: The Immortals
“Kano! Liu Kang! Raiden! Johnny Cage! Scorpion! Sub-Zero! Sonya! MORTAL KOMBAT!!” If this techno tune doesn’t up your strength and drive during physical training, nothing will! It’s energetic, has a solid beat… It also makes one imagine they are in a fight scene out of Mortal Kombat (1995) with this awesome song playing in the background.
Imagine yourself kicking major butt at your training — whatever you’re doing at the time — while this song plays! You’ll feel ready to fight hard for the duration of its play.
Artist: Niall Stenson (based on original score by Hans Zimmer)
The ideal of hope inside many people who undertake physical training: become the best version of themselves they can be. For me, it means healthier in body and mind. What better an example for inspiration than the Man of Steel himself — Superman!
This cover — again, done masterfully by guitarist Niall Stenson — starts off small… And like in training, starting small grows into bigger steps and efforts; building on one’s endurance and strength. This tune encapsulates the feeling of power every person training feels eventually; powerful enough to do anything, perhaps even fly!
Move aside, Rocky movie training montages; this is the time of geeky/nerdy tune inspirations! Listen to these tunes, allow them to take you into a state of feeling powerful inside and out, and they will add some extra oomph in how you feel about your efforts at physical training. You will feel your inner superhero emerge! And remember… you can do it!
