The official Pokémon YouTube channel finally shared updated news regarding Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The latest trailer showcased not one, but two new professors, and new Pokémon to catch in the Spain-inspired region. With so much to cover, let’s go over everything we found out about the upcoming Switch title.

On February 27th, Game Freak announced Pokémon Scarlet and Violet during their Pokémon Presents. The original trailer showcased the starter Pokémon Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. In addition, numerous Pokémon appeared from many prior generations including Galar. In a prior article, I talked about the region’s vast biomes, open-world mechanics, and the trainer designs. Feel free to check it out, as it explains the smaller details.
Multiplayer mechanic allows online interaction between players. Image from gamesradar.com
On another note, the most notable feature introduced in the recent trailer reveals the new concept of Multiplayer compatibility. With this, up to four players at a time can play together (1 Host- 3 Guests). Could this mean that players can catch version exclusive Pokémon from each others games?
On the other hand, it’s nice to see Game Freak improved on the online interaction. It’ll be very interesting to see how the multiplayer functionality improved, following its introduction in Sword and Shield.
Two Professors And A Rival:

The most surprising part of the trailer revealed that two professors will be working alongside our main character. Professor Turo and Professor Sada work in the new region, but it will determine on which version you play on. Professor Sada will assist you in Scarlet, while Turo appears in Violet. Another key note is their outfit design.
Professor Turo is dressed in a very clean-cut uniform, clearly indicating some future technology is in store. Maybe he wants to sell you the latest iPhone? On the other hand, Sada appeared in a more primal uniform, despite also wearing a lab coat. In addition, even their names are rooted from Spanish words Futuro (Future), and Pasada (Past). It’s very odd, but might also imply that both professors might be time travelers.

In addition to the professors, a young girl named Nemona will be joining you as your newest rival. As a skilled trainer, she is determined, and loves Pokemon battles. Accompanied by her Pawmi, she’ll do everything she can to assist you in understanding battles in the game.
Although, she does have trouble knowing how to properly throw a Pokéball.
Pokémon of Generation 9:
With Pokémon Scarlet and Violet coming out as Game Freak’s 9th generation, it wouldn’t be complete without their region-specific Pokémon. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the newest editions to the upcoming Pokémon game.
Pawmi (Left), Lechonk (Center), and Smoliv (Right). Image from 9vq.net
Lechonk – This Hog Pokémon is purely muscle. It spends more time looking for food rather than eating. It’s quite the picky eater, and will only eat the finest of berries and richest of grass. As a result, it’s body developed strong muscles over time.
Pawmi – Although fans are calling it another Pikachu clone, it’s very well received. It stores electricity in its electric sacs, and can use it to keep its body warm in cold climates. However, if Pawmi rubs its cheeks, small sparks may shoot out.
Smoliv – The tiny olive Pokémon loves to sunbathe. The small fruit on its head stores nutrients through photosynthesis, resulting in produced oil. As a result of this, it prefers dry and sunny climates. Because it relies on these nutrients to stay healthy, it can go a full week without eating or drinking. That’s way longer any normal grass type! It is very timid, and will use the unconsumable oil as a defense mechanism if startled.
With these three introduced in the trailer, I’m very excited to see what their evolutions could turn out to be. Considering their designs were inspired by Spain and their closer Europian countries, perhaps we’ll be seeing some very intriguing evolutions.
Scarlet and Violet; Time-Traveling Legends?

And now, the key piece to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: the box Legendaries! Koraidon and Miraidon, at first glance may be two different Pokémon. However, It could be possible that through speculation and comparison, these two may be the same Pokémon from different timelines. Their designs could also hold that type of clue, as well. While Koraidon has a more natural appearance, Miraidon is more futuristic.
This doesn’t neccesarily mean that time travel is a plot point in the new games. However, the clues scattered throughout could indicate quite an interesting storyline.
And, that’s everything we learned from the latest trailer. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is set for release on November 18th for the Nintendo Switch.
