Rising of The Shield Hero finally received news for Season 2. On February 9th, Crunchyroll launched an official trailer on their YouTube channel, revealing the next chapter for Naofumi’s journey. With the upcoming second season merely a week away, let’s go over everything we know about this new storyline.
Keep in mind, this article will contain spoiler information regarding Season 2. If you haven’t already, feel free to watch the first season on Crunchyroll or other related services.
Rising of The Shield Hero’s New Arc:
Rising of The Shield Hero Season 2 takes place following the first. Queen Mirellia summons the heroes once more with distressing news. An ancient being, the Spirit Tortoise, finally awakened after its century-long slumber. The Spirit Tortoise Arc takes our heroes to the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom, where Calamity Waves spawn fiercer than ever before. Naofumi and his allies must do everything they can in order to put a stop to this threat, before the world meets its fate.
Along the way, Naofumi and his party encounter a woman, begging for him to end her life. What this all could mean, it’s still unclear. What’s for certain is that the Shield Hero’s party will be tested in more ways than one.
Production:
Two companies will be in charge of production for Rising of The Shield Hero Season 2. The first being Japanese anime studio, Kinema Citrus. Kinema Citrus produced many series including Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (2009), Black Bullet (2014), and Made In Abyss (2017).
The second studio in line for production is DR Movie. Despite DR co-producing the series, this Korean-based studio produced a good number of familiar works. These include Avatar: The Last Airbender (19 episodes; 2005), Godzilla: The Series (1998), Justice League Animated Series (2001), and Teen Titans (2003). Taking this into consideration, I can see Season 2 being produced very well.
The Shield Hero’s Returning Cast:
As the saying goes: you can never make a sequel without the proper cast. Therefore, the original cast from the first season will be making a return to reprise their respective roles. Returning cast includes:
- Kaito Ishikawa as Naofumi. Ishikawa not only voiced Naofumi in Shield Hero Season 1, but also as Tobio Kageyama from Haikyuu!! To The Top II, and Tenya Iida from My Hero Academia.
- Asami Seto as Raphtalia. Seto had quite the profile as a voice talent. Her acting included roles such as Nobara Kugisaki from Jujutsu Kaisen, and F from Star Wars: Visions.
- Rina Hidaka as Filo. Although Hidaka plays a supporting role as Naofumi’s ally, she also voiced a few others outside Shield Hero. Her voice talents include Demon Lord Milim in Reincarnated As A Slime, Mimi from Princess Connect! Re: Dive, and Last Order from A Certain Scientific Railgun, just to name a few.
Personally, I like this. It’s always a great decision to always include the original cast for series continuation. With the second season beginning to air next month, I can’t wait to see the story unfold.
