The long awaited Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has a release date. A trailer with scenes from the cut scenes as well as game play was dropped with a date at the end. On April 5, 2022 we will finally be able to relive the saga in Lego form. Geek News Now has been tracking the progress of the game for quite a while now. This has been a long awaited game encompassing the entire movie saga from The Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker.
With the pandemic still in full swing the date has been pushed back several times. An initial date was mentioned as October 20, 2020. It has been moved several time since then. Pre-orders were available from the major retailers (Walmart, Target Amazon) but they always had a release date for the corresponding year ie. available December 31 2021. This was done because the date kept changing and with the last day of the year they had all their bases covered. Some of the sites still have the date listed as December 31 of this year.
Now that there seems to be an end for our waiting, what can we expect from Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga?
Combat Mechanics:
Newer combat options will be available to the player in this game. According to the trailer combos can be used as well as new blaster mechanics will keep you more emersed in the battle you are participating in. As with the original games lightsabers will also be utilized as well as force powers.
Exploration:
The worlds of the Lego Star Wars universe seem expansive and now it seems as though we will be able to explore more. During game play apparently there are option to stray off from the main story and explore other Star Wars locations. Of course there will be side quests available in these areas so that you can get the 100 percent completion.
Characters:
How many characters make a game great? Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga boasts over 300 different playable characters that are able to be unlocked and used in the free play mode. There is also the ability to collect kyber crystals with in the game that can be used for upgrades on certain characters. Enhancements to weapons and abilities should make for a better gameplay. There have also been unlock codes in a few of the more recent Lego sets one of which being the Razor Crest, the ship made famous in The Mandalorian.
I wrote recently “The tying together of a huge franchise like Star Wars and one of the best selling toy brands of all times seems to be a match made in heaven. Based on the success of the previous games in the series this masterpiece should have no problem at all becoming one of the best selling games of the year. For all of you worried about the stand alone movies I personally think you should have no fear.” and I still stand by that.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be available April 5, 2022 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox
