Sonic The Hedgehog is back! A full year after the first film’s release in 2020, IGN‘s YouTube channel dropped an official trailer on December 9th. Now, after seeing some information on how the sequel will play out, we at Geek News Now will share that same information with you. Grab your chilidogs, ladies and gentleman, because we’re going to drop all that’s coming to Sonic The Hedgehog 2!
Sonic 2 Cast:
A film wouldn’t be complete without its stars! That is to say, its video game stars! From everything we gathered, we were able to find who will be appearing in the film, and make their triumphant return to the big screen!

Everyone’s favorite little blue devil is back! This time, he’s kickin’ it in the big city, and helping to save the day. However, his current human guardian, Tom, doesn’t seem to agree. After causing major damage to the city, he advises Sonic to simply lay low, until his powers are truly needed once again. Little does he know, that time will be soon.
Ben Schwartz will be reprising his role, returning with some possible witty one-liners. Seeing how he managed to do well in the previous film, we’ll be looking forward to what the actor will bring to the table.
Miles “Tails” Prower:

This time, Sonic isn’t alone. Miles, nicknamed Tails, will be aiding the blue hedgehog in his battle against Robotnik. Piloting his trademark aircraft, The Tornado, Tails takes to the skies and does his absolute best to provide aerial support in order to gain the upper hand in combat. In addition, Tails is extremely tech-savvy, making him possibly a respectable foe against Eggman.
Colleen O’Shaughnessey, the original voice of Tails from the game series, will be voicing the twin-tailed fox in the film. I’d say that’s a valiant effort to make sure that a video game character sounds amazing on the big screen.
Knuckles The Echidna:

His fists aren’t the only things that’ll be doing the talking! This rough-and-tough Echidna is the guardian of a special gem known as the Master Emerald. Somehow, however, Eggman managed to convince the hard-headed ruffian that Sonic is his enemy.
In the trailer, it’s revealed that Knuckles has his own power, stating he doesn’t need Sonic’s. Although this is clearly a massive misunderstanding by both parties, who knows how the battle of Speed Vs Strength will play out.
Idris Elba will be voicing Knuckles in this upcoming sequel. He’s known for his roles as Brixton in Hobbs and Shaw (2019), and Heimdall throughout the Avengers MCU. With Idris joining the Sonic crew, and the trailer showing off quite the impressive voice talent, I’m eager to see how he will take on the role of Knuckles.
Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik:

Eggman’s back, and meaner than ever! Returning to Earth with help from his genius brain, he now seeks a powerful gem known as the Master Emerald. With this, he can make anything a reality.
He recruits Knuckles, and reunites with his assistant, Stone, in order for his plans to bring fruition. After refreshing my memory on doing some research, it appears the Master Emerald Eggman is after is quite powerful. With Sonic and Tails aware of what Eggman is plotting, it’ll be up to the dynamic duo to stop this madman, and save the world.
Jim Carrey will be reprising his role as Robotnik once more for this action-packed sequel. With everything he brought to the table in the previous film, I’m excited to see just how far he will go with his master plan of world domination.
Is Sonic 2 similar to Sonic & Knuckles?
In my personal opinion, this film’s plot seems to follow very closely to the original Sonic & Knuckles (1994) PC game. However, the only difference is that considering this is a live-action retelling, there is the element of it taking place on Earth. In addition, Sonic doesn’t have his Chaos Emeralds, rather trying to stop Robotnik from stealing the Master Emerald.
Aside from all that, however, I’m really looking forward to seeing Sonic the Hedgehog take the big screen once again! This film is set for release in theatres April 8th, 2022. Keep your eyes peeled, because this is shaping to be Sonic’s biggest adventure yet!
