Marvel Eternals: The Infinity Crisis

Marvel’s Eternals will release into theaters on November 5th. The trailer for the film released earlier this year, giving us a look into a much more secluded corner of the MCU. Eternals takes place some time after Avengers Endgame, begging the question as to why they couldn’t help stop the Infinity Crisis. Most importantly, why they couldn’t stop the mad titan, Thanos. The main reason may come as a surprise to most, but Thanos isn’t just some giant, purple madman. Before we can get into that, though, let’s first explore the world of Eternals.

That question is quite easy to answer. Eternals, for those unaware, are a select group of individuals with abilities that surpass basic human evolution. Think X-Men, but double the powers. Ancient beings called Celestials created Eternals, tasking them with watching over humanity. However, the only time they interfered with anything, is if another being called a Deviant is involved. Because of this, they practically secluded themselves away from the rest of the world.

These people have a unique ability, however. Should they perish in combat, or otherwise, they will simply be reborn anew. In other words, revitalize themselves as if nothing happened. This action could either be due to Deviants, or simple suicide. In most cases, however, Eternals would often either turn on each other, or interfere with mortal affairs. Now, this brings up an important question most people ask themselves. If they knew Thanos was after the Infinity Stones, why not try to stop him? With half the universe wiped out, wouldn’t this include Deviants, thusly eliminating the purpose of their existence? Well, the answer is quite shocking.

Thanos Is An Eternal-Deviant!

That’s right, folks. Despite Thanos being born on Titan, he sits well on the fence of both species. It all started with Thanos being born an Eternal in the care of A’lars and Sui-San. Despite this, Thanos carried the Deviant gene, mutating him, but still having complete control of his actions. His mother, Sui-San, believed Thanos would soon destroy all life in the universe. She attempted to kill him, only to be stopped by A’lars.

Despite Thanos being a Deviant, he is also an Eternal-born lifeform. This would mean, in fact, Eternals would be attacking one of their own. In addition to this, since Thanos sent The Black Order and other forces to Earth, this would officially make it a mortal affair. To make matters worse, the Eternals’ leader, a Celestial, gave the order to ignore the Infinity Crisis.

Because of this, Endgame was, in Thanos’ words, inevitable. On the other hand, because the Avengers undid what Thanos had done during Endgame, this led to the Eternals reuniting, taking on the role of protecting humanity from Deviants once again. How this will turn out in the film, I’m not sure. Maybe the Eternals will confront their creators? Or, perhaps Eternals will cause a major shift to occur within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Only time will tell, as we await the arrival of the latest film in Marvel’s Phase 4.

And, there you have it. Do you think Eternals will change the MCU with their reemergence? Or perhaps find a loophole within their rules in order to aid humanity more efficiently? This and Shang Chi are the first MCU movies that I have no general interest and they I’m probably going to skip. The race, gender, and sexual swaps have gotten old. Before this launches into one of those idiotic internet arguments, I have nothing against the gender opposite of my own, anyone’s sexual proclivities, nor do I have any issues with anyone solely based on race, but I am a comic book fan. I prefer any adaptation to adhere as closely to the source as possible.
