They say that fashion trends come back around, and lucky for Gen X so do our favorite animated heroes. We have seen reboots of She-Ra and Thundercats, soon we will see them rebooting Silverhawks. It was announced earlier in July by Deadline.com that the Nacelle Company is working to have the show reanimated.
Modern Design For the Modern Age
While these reboots are not going to be exactly how we remember them from our childhoods, they are a great way to share them with the next generation. Most of us have such fond memories of our favorite cartoons from the 80’s, but have you tried to go back and watch them as an adult? The shows just don’t translate. When I say that I don’t mean that we can’t see them with the same kind of childish wonder, the original content just does not translate to the world today. You can’t expect to share something with the next generation that they cannot relate to their world.
The Original
Silverhawk’s was highly underrated for it’s 65 episode run back in the 80’s, could the reanimation give it the fanbase that it deserved? Maybe it was just ahead of its time. While the 80’s was a time when we started to see science fiction come to life, a group of heroes with metal bodies and wings was maybe just a little bit more than our imaginations could handle. The next generation is looking for the next vision of the future and Silverhawks could be just that.
At this time, it has not been announced which platforms will be carrying Silverhawks. Nacelle has produced shows for both Disney+ and Netflix. With other popular reboots such as She-Ra and Thundercats both being on Netflix it would make sense for them to keep all that nostalgia in one place. However, Disney+ is also looking to expand their library of original programming. Where it will land at this point is anybody’s guess.
