The House of Mouse has made a drastic change to a fan favorite ship in the Star Wars universe. Boba Fett’s iconic ship will no longer be referred to as “Slave 1”. The name change occurred in the Lego line of products. During the Lego Con online a picture of the new set was released and the title on the box show it re-named as “Boba Fett’s Starship”.
At this point Geek News Now has not been able to determine if this is a permanent change, a change simply done for marketing purposes, or if this will reflect a change in Star Wars “canon”. We will keep you updated as news comes to us.

Mark Anthony Austin has criticized the company for renaming the ship for new Lego toys. Austin played Fett in the special edition of Star Wars: A New Hope and is quite unhappy with Star Wars’ new parent company, Disney, messing with canonical elements of the beloved franchise. He lashed out at the company in a series of tweets that were aimed at the name change.
My ship will forever be Slave1.
Nothing. Not even #disney can or will change that.
This is the way. pic.twitter.com/Qt99Yo8dEz

The change comes comes as Disney has been striving to acknowledge insensitive cultural depictions in its works for some time now. This has included placing restrictions on Disney Classics such as Peter Pan, Fantasia, and Dumbo on its popular streaming service Disney+. Disney explains this move on its Stories Matter website, where it says that the restrictions are part of efforts to review its library and add advisories to content that includes “negative depictions or mistreatment of people or cultures.”
This is not the first time a Lego Star Wars set has come under fire. In 2013 the set number 9516 Jabba’s Palace play set came under fire for looking too much like a mosque and disrespectful to the Muslim religion. A group even called for Lego to “apologize publicly for the violation of religious and cultural feelings.”
Personally I think this is something that just needed to be left alone. The ship has been called Slave 1 since it debuted in 1980. Boba Fett has been flying around our hearts and minds in that ship since then and we have been calling it as such. What are your thoughts on this? Is Disney and Lego making the right call here and making a justified name change or is it a reach? Let us know in the comments what you think.

That’s gross. They should have left it alone.

What’s next? Are the Jedi to be ignored, or written out, because in the eyes of some they are nothing more than baby snatchers? Is Jabba’s palace going to get a reshoot where Oola and Leia aren’t chained up? Or is the Mos Eisley bartender going to have his “We don’t serve their kind here” line removed from the movie entirely?

This comment is much ado about nothing … this is what Lego does all the time, this wasnt a Disney decision. In fact, the Millennium Falcon is one of the few ships not to be “renamed” on the box branding. And a 30 second google seaerch would show you its still on the Disney Web Store as Slave 1
