Superhero fans rejoice! Michael B Jordan (Black Panther) is returning to the superhero world. Get ready to be shocked as Jordan is to co-produce a Static Shock flick with Reginald Hudlin (Django Unchained).
According to Comicbook.com, Warner Brothers is working jointly with Jordan and his Outlier Society to bring to life a new cinematic universe with diversity in mind. Jordan told THR “I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes; our community deserves that.” As a comic fan himself, Jordan has the opportunity to be the creative force behind a cinematic universe that will bring more diverse heroes for fans everywhere.

Michael B Jordan is no stranger to superhero movies. Jordan costarred with the late Chadwick Boseman in 2018’s Black Panther as Killmonger he proved he could play the villain. He proved he could play the hero as well as The Human Torch in 2015’s Fantastic Four. He has also produced movies such as Just Mercy and Creed II. Both movies did really well in the box office.
News of the potential for a diverse superhero franchise surfaced back in August during DC’s comic con event DCFanDome. At the time Hudlin announced that they were relaunch of Milestone Comics and unveiled that a feature film was in the works with Warner Brothers. No further elaboration at the time.
No ideas which comic character the focus would be on or who would be directing. Now, we know. Hudlin is set to be the motor behind the release of a Static Shock series due to release in February. Amazing news for comic fans.

Virgil Hawkins, also known as Static, was almost a Marvel comic in the 1980s but was taken to Milestone in 1993 by creator Dwayne McDuffie. He was meant to be an African American Spider-Man but as we know that became Miles Morales and Static ended up being a shockingly great at electromagnetism. Under Milestone, Static ran for 45 issues then in 2001 he was adopted into DC comics where he has been since. He is a member of Justice League Unlimited with Superman and Wonder Woman.
The world needs a new set of heroes. While not well known, Static Shock is just the new that we need. He is also the start of making heroes for the diverse fans so that all have someone to look up to. Imagine being a child needing a hero, however, none look like you. Now these children are getting their shot at having a more diverse hero base. I can’t wait to see what comes of this character in this revitalization at the hands of the two great minds of Michael B. Jordan and Reginald Hudlin. No news of a release date is ready at this time.
