Imagine walking into Main Street at Disney with your family. You are finally able to take the vacation of your dreams. How do you commemorate this? Family photos with matching shirts! The Family Shop has you covered!
I spoke with Katherine, the co-owner of the company and asked her some questions about her family business. Katherine is a Disney-loving graphic designer out of Orlando, FL.
I love the story of how this business came to be. Katherine and her husband designed the first shirts for their honeymoon in 2010. Disney fans loved their shirts and the magic of the business was born. When they returned home to Moscow, they began making “party decor, wooden signs and custom celebration shirts. All the custom things.” They moved to the US in 2016 and wanted to continue their business. They chose to call their business The Family Shop or Fmly Shop as “Fmly reads as family.” Katherine expressed that “it brings us so much joy to see park visitors in our apparel.” She told me that she has sold thousands of shirts and other items since they began and love being able to create items for everyone!
The Family Shop makes t-shirts, stickers, and vinyl decals for mugs/tumblers. They have baby sizes up to adult sizes in shirts. Disney is their love and most of the site is Disney products. Do you like Baby Yoda? They have that for you too! They also have Harry Potter products for the Potterheads to wear to Universal. Best thing is they also take requests! Katherine told me they have a “separate section on the site for custom orders and we could create almost everything!” So if you wanted something different for a different park or didn’t want one of the styles they could custom design one for you! Katherine said that her favorite thing to make was “new designs.” Whether it is “custom or seasonal.”
I asked where she got her inspiration for her designs. She says that she gets her inspiration from “followers about new products and ideas.” The Disney family is huge and spans the whole world. Her page on Instagram has 10.8K followers, including myself, that help her business thrive. If you want to see the designs modeled head on over to their Instagram page! Also, of 160 reviews on their website they have five stars!!
She chose to make designs for the Disney parks because she loves Disney and Disney helps her bring out her inner child and “forget about all the adult things and just enjoy the moment.” I definitely can get behind this!
They have new shirts just in time for the July 4th holiday and they feature the precious baby yoda as well as Mickey as Katherine said is her favorite character because “it all started with a Mouse!”
They print and prepare everything in house. She told me that it usually takes “3-5 days to fulfill the order” then “2-5 days” to ship. Not a bad rate of time for something that has to be made by hand!
Be sure to check them out on Facebook and Instagram and their website! Katherine would love to help make your dream designs come true!
