Movie Theaters Announce Weapon/Costume Policies for Star Wars

Cineplex: We encourage our guests to enhance their movie-going experience by wearing costumes if they choose, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is no exception. That said, we have had a policy in place for many years that prohibits our guests from wearing masks in our theatres. Costumes that include props and toys will be reviewed on an individual basis, with the goal of ensuring there are no safety issues or tripping hazards. For obvious reasons, we do prohibit our guests from carrying toy weapons of any kind in our theatres.

Santikos: Dressing up is encouraged, however no masks, or face paint is permitted. No prop weaponry will be allowed.

Regal: Protecting the safety of our clientele and cast members is always top priority at Regal Entertainment Group. Therefore, REG does not allow admission to our locations for guests of any age wearing a mask, face paint or face-obscuring hood; or possessing weapons, props or fake weapons.

Alamo Drafthouse: We love seeing your costumes, but we ask you avoid masks and face paint. Also, please leave your blasters at home. What about Lightsabers? Lightsabers are allowed, but they cannot be turned on in the theater. (Note: This is from 2017. We requested an updated policy, but did not receive one)

AMC Theaters: Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks or face paint. AMC does not permit weapons or items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the movie-going experience.

Odeon: Here at ODEON we are just as excited for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” as our guests. While we know dressing up is a fun way to celebrate the film release, we are also mindful of the comfort and security of all audience members. So for example, we ask that our guests don’t wear masks or similar that cover their faces, or bring fake weapons with them to the cinema.
